BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of Iowa baseball team opened its Big Ten series at Indiana with a 12-2 victory Friday night at Bart Kaufman Field.
“The guys played well tonight. Tyler Guerin gave us a great start, and Kyle Alivo came in and didn’t give up a run, finishing it out,” said head coach Rick Heller. “The offense was locked in with quality at‑bats up and down the lineup. Max Burt, Miles Risley, and Kellen Strohmeyer all had big nights. Nine different players had hits, and we hit four home runs.”
Iowa struck early, scoring four runs in the second inning. Redshirt junior Jaylen Ziegler’s sacrifice fly opened the scoring before senior Gable Mitchell singled home two runs and senior Miles Risley added an RBI single to make it 4-0.
The Hawkeyes extended the lead in the fourth when Risley launched a three‑run home run to left. Indiana answered with two runs in the bottom half, but that would be all the Hoosiers could get across.
Iowa added insurance late with a two‑run homer from redshirt sophomore Max Burt in the seventh, followed by ninth‑inning home runs from redshirt freshman Carter Geffre and redshirt junior Kellen Strohmeyer.
Risley drove in four runs to lead the offense as Iowa finished with 15 hits and played error‑free defense.
Sophomore Tyler Guerin earned the win, allowing five hits over five innings, while redshirt freshman Kyle Alivo tossed four scoreless frames with seven strikeouts in relief to earn the save.
