IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball team will host Northern Illinois in a midweek matchup Wednesday evening at Bob Pearl Field. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
The Hawkeyes enter the game with a 25-25 overall record and a 6-15 mark in the Big Ten Conference. Iowa was swept in a three-game conference series this past weekend by No. 4 Nebraska.
Iowa leads the all-time series, 25-16. The last meeting between the programs came March 26, 2008, when Iowa secured a 1-0 victory.
As a team, Northern Illinois is batting .330 with a 4.63 ERA. Senior Danielle Stewart leads the Huskies with a .474 batting average and tops the team in hits (33) and doubles (14) while tying for the lead in runs scored (33). Stewart also pitches and has recorded 28 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings. Senior Madison Carlson holds a team-best 2.56 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 87 1/3 innings.
Iowa is batting .281 as a team with a 4.94 ERA. Senior Tory Bennett leads the Hawkeyes with nine home runs and is the 14th player in program history to hit nine or more home runs in a season. In the circle, senior Serayah Neiss leads the team with a 4.18 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 122 1/3 innings. Neiss is eight strikeouts shy of 400 for her career.
