Iowa Signs Purdue Transfer Ida Clement

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Purdue transfer Ida Clement has signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Iowa tennis program, it was announced Friday by head coach Sasha Boros.  Clement will have two seasons of eligibility with the Hawkeyes.

“We are so excited to welcome Ida to the University of Iowa and our Hawkeye tennis family,” said Boros. “Ida brings Big Ten experience, maturity and a strong competitive foundation.  Throughout this process, it was clear that she values team, growth and connection -- all qualities that align beautifully with who we are as a program.

“We believe Ida has the ability to make an immediate impact, and more importantly, we believe Iowa will be a place where she can thrive in this next chapter of her college tennis journey.”

During her two seasons in West Lafayette, Clement won 21 singles and 25 doubles matches.  Eleven of her singles wins came at the No. 2 line and five doubles victories were at the one position.  In doubles, she was ranked as high as No. 44 nationally during her sophomore season.

As a prep, the Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany, native attended Privatgynasium Schwetzigen, where she was the seventh-ranked player in her age group.  She was No. 83 in the German women’s rankings.

“I chose Iowa because from the very beginning, the connection I felt with the coaches and team was something special,” said Clement. “I knew it was the right place for me to grow both as a player and as a person. I’m so excited to start this new chapter as a Hawkeye.”

Clement is the third player who will join the program in the fall along with incoming freshmen Mia Soso (Chicago, Ill.) and Emerey Gross (St. Louis, Mo.).
