IOWA CITY, Iowa – Macey Howes will join the University of Iowa tennis program as a walk-on beginning in the fall of 2026, the announcement was made Friday by head coach Sasha Boros.
“We are thrilled to welcome Macey to our team,” said Boros. “Her enthusiasm for Hawkeye tennis is contagious and we can’t wait to work with her and see her in black and gold.”
The Iowa City, Iowa, native was homeschooled and earned a high school degree from Iowa Connections Academy. During her junior career, she attended various academies in Florida and qualified for both Eddie Herr International Championships and Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships in 14s and 16s.
Howes, who won eight consecutive tournaments when she began competing at age 13, attended a week-long camp in Chicago with the Rafa Nadal Academy. She was selected as one of two players at the camp to get the opportunity to train at their campus in Mallorca, Spain.
“I’m excited to join the Iowa tennis program because when I was little, I always looked up to the girls on the team,” said Howes. “I heard stories about them and their practices, and it motivated and pushed me to get better. Now, instead of hearing stories, I’ll be telling them.”
Howes is the fourth player who will join the program in the fall along with incoming freshmen Mia Soso (Chicago, Ill.) and Emerey Gross (St. Louis, Mo.) and Purdue transfer Ida Clement.
