Schneberger Tabbed UI Associate VP for Athletics Development

Adam Schneberger has been named the new Associate Vice President for Athletics Development at the University of Iowa.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Adam Schneberger has been named the new associate vice president for athletics development at the University of Iowa Center for Advancement (UICA). The announcement was made Thursday by UI Athletics and the UICA.

“We are excited to welcome Adam to the Hawkeye family. He brings a proven track record of leading high-performing development teams and securing transformational philanthropic support,” said Beth Goetz, Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair. “Adam’s strategic mindset, leadership experience, and commitment to building meaningful relationships will be instrumental as we continue to grow resources that support our student-athletes and position Iowa Athletics for long-term success.”

An Iowa native, Schneberger has spent his career building a reputation for success in collegiate athletics fundraising and leadership. Schneberger has worked in Stanford University’s Office of Development for the last 15 years, including the last two years as executive associate athletics director for development.

“My family and I are thrilled to return to Iowa and rejoin the Hawkeye community,” said Schneberger. “Iowa Athletics has tremendous momentum, outstanding leadership, and an incredibly passionate fan base. I am excited to build on that foundation and expand the philanthropic support that helps provide a world-class experience for our student-athletes,” said Schneberger. “I am grateful to Beth Goetz and Angela Greenwald for the opportunity to serve an institution that has meant so much to our family. We are excited to be back in Iowa and look forward to contributing to the bright future of Hawkeye Athletics.”

At Stanford, Schneberger’s primary responsibilities included leading the athletics development strategy, overseeing a 15-person team across principal gifts, major gifts, annual giving, and donor relations, and spearheading Stanford Athletics’ $1 billion fundraising campaign. Since launching the campaign, Stanford has raised more than $260 million in its quiet phase, with Schneberger personally securing more than $200 million in commitments, including multiple eight-figure gifts.

“I am really pleased to welcome Adam to Iowa and the UICA,” said Angela Greenwald, UICA Main Campus Development Vice President. “He has a clear sense of how to build momentum and translate big goals into results, grounded in both strong data instincts and a genuine focus on relationships. That combination will matter as we continue to grow support for Iowa Athletics. I look forward to the partnership ahead and the impact Adam will have for our student-athletes and the programs they represent.”

Schneberger was promoted to Stanford’s executive associate athletics director in May 2024, after serving as senior associate athletics director for development. In his role, he was a member of the athletics executive team, contributing to department-wide strategy related to revenue generation, financial planning, and organizational leadership. He also led multiple athletics volunteer boards and served as a liaison to key university advisory groups.

Schneberger served in several leadership positions within Stanford Athletics, including associate athletics director for development, where he helped lead a $380 million campaign that was completed ahead of schedule and set multiple fundraising records. He oversaw teams ranging from annual giving to principal gifts, consistently driving significant increases in donor engagement and philanthropic support.

Schneberger is a native of West Union, Iowa. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics teaching from UNI, graduating cum laude. He later earned a master’s degree in sport management from Western Illinois, where he began his career in athletics development.
