SPOKANE, Washington — University of Iowa women’s wrestler Harlee Hiller placed first in her division at the USA Judo Junior Olympic National Championships on Saturday, June 20.
The sophomore went 5-0 making her way through the 57kg bracket to claim the title. All five matches were won by ippon, which is achieved by a throw, pin or submission.
In her first match of the tournament, she took the win over Brooklynne Tsukiyama in just 54 seconds. She then moved on to face Kiana Kitaura, where she won in 3:16. In the semifinals, Hiller defeated Aubrey Genereux to advance to her final qualification match against Elsa Clark, where she got her fourth ippon of the day to advance to the finals.
Hiller then faced Clark again, who worked her way through the repechage to make it to the finals. Hiller would ultimately take the title with her fifth ippon of the tournament.
