Iowa Routs Loyola to Improve to 2-0

Five different Hawkeyes found the back of the net, leading the University of Iowa women’s soccer team to a 5-0 rout of Loyola (Ill.) 5-0 on Saturday night at the Iowa Soccer Complex.

IOWA CITY, Iowa - - Five different Hawkeyes found the back of the net, leading the University of Iowa women’s soccer team to a 5-0 rout of Loyola (Ill.) 5-0 on Saturday night at the Iowa Soccer Complex.

The victory improves Iowa’s record to 2-0 this season with back-to-back shutout victories.  The Hawkeyes have scored 12 goals over its first two games this season, the most in a two-game stretch to open a season in program history.

Liana Tarasco set the tone early, knocking the opening goal in the ninth minute off an assist from Berit Parten. Jada Grove extended Iowa's lead in the 38th minute, capitalizing on a pass from Savannah Hutchins to give Iowa a 2-0 lead going into the half. The Hawkeyes outshot the Ramblers 15-1 in the first half.

Iowa maintained the pressure after the break as Elle Wildman increased the lead to 3-0 with an unassisted goal in the 54th minute. Kylie Cino buried a shot from the middle of the box off another set-up by Hutchins and Iowa scored its final goal when Sara Batchadji netted a free kick from outside the box.

“It’s a challenge for other teams watching and scouting us. If we can score from different players in different positions, it just gives other teams problems to deal with, not just one player who is a goal scorer, but scoring goals in different ways.” said Iowa head coach Dean Ward

The Hawkeyes were in control from start to finish, possessing the ball for 67 percent of the action and outshooting their opponents, 29-3, with 15 shots on target. Braelynn Galt recorded her second consecutive game with two saves and two shutouts.

Iowa returns to action Aug. 20, traveling to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to face off against Wake Forest in its first road contest.

OF NOTE...

  • The Hawkeyes’ 12 goals are the most scored in the team’s first two games in program history, surpassing the 10 goals scored to open the 1999 season.
  • Iowa’s 12 goals are tied for the most in a two-game stretch in school history, tying the 1998 team that scored 12 goals in wins over Kansas and Western Illinois.
  • Iowa out-shot Loyola, 29-3, in the contest.  The Hawkeyes have outscored and out-shot their opponents, 12-0 and 50-6, respectively, in the first two games.
  • It is the first time since the 2023 season that Iowa has opened the season with consecutive shutouts.
  • Four players scored their first goals of the season – Liana Tarasco, Elle Wildman, Kylie Cino and Sara Batchadji.
  • Nine different Hawkeyes have scored in the team’s first two contests.
  • Tarasco’s strike was her first of the season and fifth of her career.
  • Grove scored her first goal career goal late in the first half to give Iowa a 2-0 lead.
  • Wildman netted her third goal of the season in the second half, tying her for the team lead with two strikes.  Wildman matched her 2025 scoring output.
  • Cino scored her first goal as a Hawkeye after transferring from South Carolina.  It was her second career goal.
  • Batchadji netted her first goal at Iowa and her 13th career strike.
