Iowa Defeats Iowa State 2-0

The University of Iowa soccer team defeated Iowa State, 2-0, in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series on Thursday evening at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

AMES, Iowa – The University of Iowa soccer team defeated Iowa State, 2-0, in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series on Thursday evening at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

The Hawkeyes improved to 4-1-0 with the win, their fourth consecutive victory over the Cyclones and ninth in the last 11 meetings.

In the fourth minute, the Hawkeyes drew a foul in the box, allowing Kylie Cino to find the back of the net to give Iowa an early 1-0 lead. 

Iowa maintained the pressure throughout the opening half, outshooting ISU, 13-2, with six shots on target. Goalkeeper Braelynn Galt collected a save as the Hawkeyes carried the one-goal advantage into the break.

Jada Grove doubled the lead in the 59th minute, finishing off assists from Abby Skiff and Berit Parten for her second goal of the season.

The Hawkeyes controlled the match the rest of the way, holding Iowa State without a shot in the second half. Iowa finished with 64 percent possession and limited the Cyclones to just two shots and no corner kicks in the 2-0 shutout.

“I’m pleased to get a road win against a rival,” head coach Dean Ward said. “To get multiple goals and a shutout is pleasing. We controlled the game in the second half. We pressed up front and forced them to play long, minimizing their chances and set pieces.”

  • Iowa outshot Iowa State, 26-2, and has now outshot its opponents, 114-22, this season.
  • The Hawkeyes have won nine of their last 11 contests against Iowa State.
  • The shutout marks Iowa's third of the season.
  • The match marked the first time since Sept. 26, 2024, that Iowa allowed two or fewer shots.
  • The last time the Hawkeyes conceded zero corner kicks in a victory was Aug. 18, 2024, when Iowa defeated Colorado College, 4-1.
  • Cino and Grove each recorded their second goal of the season.
  • 90 tracker: Lucia Englund, Sofia Bush, Sara Batchadji, Millie Greer and Skiff each played the full 90 minutes. It marked the second match this season in which Batchadji and Greer went the distance.
