THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team opens the 2026-27 season Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the Boilermaker Classic in West Lafayette, Ind. The 54-hole tournament will be played at the Kampen-Cosler Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (par 72, 6,299 yards).
The tournament will begin with an 8 a.m. (CT) shotgun start both days. Teams will play 36 continuous holes Monday before concluding with 18 holes Tuesday.

THE LINEUP
Iowa’s lineup includes freshman Eva Kristinsdottir, senior Maura Peters, sophomore Sunny Wang, sophomore Paige Giovenco and senior Ximena Benites. Freshman Maria Moczarska will compete as an individual.
THE FIELD
The 16-team field includes host Purdue, Abilene Christian, Ball State, Georgia Southern, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Little Rock, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi State, Missouri State, North Florida, Ole Miss, Rutgers and Western Kentucky.
THE COURSE
The Kampen-Cosler Course is one of two championship 18-hole courses at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex and was designed by renowned golf course architect Pete Dye. The links-style course has hosted several notable events, including the 2003 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship.
THE RETURNERS
Iowa’s current roster features four returning Hawkeyes: Benites, Peters, junior Lily Huether and Wang.
Peters paced Iowa in 2025-26 with a team-best 74.06 scoring average over 31 rounds. She recorded two top-10 finishes, eight rounds at or below par and a team-low round of 68.
Benites competed in all 11 tournaments last season, posting a career-best 74.48 scoring average over 31 rounds. She finished with two top-20 finishes, eight rounds at or below par and 75 birdies. Her scoring average was the second best among Iowa’s returning players.
Wang competed in 10 tournaments during her freshman campaign, recording one top-10 and two top-20 finishes. She posted a career-low round of 70 and earned WGCA All-American Scholar honors following the season.
Huether competed in four tournaments in 2025-26, posting a 77.63 scoring average. She recorded a career-best finish at the Wachesaw Shootout, tying for 14th, and was Iowa’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient.
NEW HAWKEYES
The Hawkeyes welcome four newcomers to the 2026-27 roster: freshmen Iris Gu, Kristinsdottir and Moczarska, along with Giovenco, a sophomore transfer from the University of Indianapolis.
Kristinsdottir, a native of Reykjavik, Iceland, enters her first collegiate season after winning four tournament titles and recording 17 top-10 finishes. She also competed twice at the World Junior Girls Championship and posted a top-20 finish at the 2025 Annika Invitational Europe.
Moczarska comes to Iowa after competing as a member of the Polish National Team. The Warsaw, Poland, native recorded three victories and 23 top-10 finishes and competed in events including the World Junior Championships, European Girls Team Championships and British Girls Amateur.
Giovenco earned WGCA honorable mention All-America honors during her freshman season at UIndy. The Sellersburg, Ind., native was the unanimous GLVC Freshman of the Year after posting a 74.20 scoring average with six top-10 finishes.
Gu, a native of Valencia, Spain, joins the program with five tournament victories and 28 top-10 finishes. She won the 2025 St. Andrews Junior Ladies Open and the 2024 Orlando International Amateur.
A REVIEW: 2025 BOILERMAKER CLASSIC
The Hawkeyes finished seventh at the 2025 Boilermaker Classic with a 54-hole total of 893 (298-303-292). Benites paced Iowa, tying for 18th with a 221 (69-78-74). Her opening-round 69 tied her career low. Wang tied for 25th in her Hawkeye debut with a 224 (78-75-71).
OF NOTE…
• Three of Iowa’s six competitors, Kristinsdottir, Giovenco and Moczarska, will make their Hawkeye debuts at the Boilermaker Classic.
• Peters and Benites each competed in all 11 tournaments during the 2025-26 season.
• Peters returns after leading the Hawkeyes with a 74.06 scoring average last season.
• Iowa has won back-to-back team titles at the Diane Thomason Invitational, capturing the tournament in both 2024 and 2025.
