Van Cleef, Van Hoof Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

University of Iowa field hockey fifth-year Frédérique van Cleef and first-year Reine van Hoof earned Big Ten weekly honors, the conference office announced Monday.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa field hockey fifth-year Fréderique van Cleef and first-year Reine van Hoof earned Big Ten weekly honors, the conference office announced Monday.

It is the first career weekly honor for both van Cleef and van Hoof.

Van Cleef was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week after tallying two goals and an assist for five points as Iowa defeated No. 7 Wake Forest and No. 2 North Carolina in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Asten, Netherlands, native provided the assist on the game-winning goal in overtime against Wake Forest and put all seven of her shots on goal during the weekend.

Van Hoof was named Freshman of the Week following her NCAA debut performance. The Leuven, Belgium, native scored the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat No. 7 Wake Forest and helped lead the Hawkeyes in their upset over No. 2 North Carolina. Van Hoof put all three of her shots on target during the two-game slate.

The Hawkeyes return to action Friday for their home opener against Lehigh at 3 p.m. (CT) in Iowa City. The game will be streamed on B1G+.
