Van Cleef Named NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week

Fifth-year student-athlete Fréderique van Cleef has been named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Offensive Player of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa fifth-year student-athlete Fréderique van Cleef has been named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Offensive Player of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.

Van Cleef tallied two goals and an assist for five points as Iowa defeated No. 7 Wake Forest and No. 2 North Carolina in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Asten, Netherlands, native recorded the assist on the game-winning goal in overtime against Wake Forest and put all seven of her shots on goal during the weekend.

The forward totaled 12 goals and five assists while earning NFHCA All-America, NFHCA All-West Region and first-team All-Big Ten honors a season ago.

The Hawkeyes return to action Friday for their home opener against Lehigh at 3 p.m. (CT) in Iowa City. The game will be streamed on B1G+.
