No. 25 Iowa Falls at Minnesota, 1-0

The No. 25 University of Iowa women’s soccer team dropped its Big Ten opener, 1-0, against Minnesota on Thursday evening at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The No. 25 University of Iowa women’s soccer team dropped its Big Ten opener, 1-0, against Minnesota on Thursday evening at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

Iowa falls to 5-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in Big Ten play, while Minnesota improves to 5-1-1 and 1-0-0 in conference action.

Minnesota broke through in the 41st minute when Tenley Senden found the back of the net, sending the Golden Gophers into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

The Hawkeyes generated opportunities throughout the match, outshooting Minnesota, 22-12, and holding a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Iowa was unable to find the equalizer, however, as Minnesota goalkeeper Sarah Martin recorded six saves to preserve the shutout.

Berit Parten and Elle Wildman paced the Iowa attack with six shots apiece.

OF NOTE…

  • Iowa outshot Minnesota, 22-12, and has outshot its opponents, 188-46, this season.
  • Parten and Wildman each recorded six shots.
  • Parten and Wildman played all 90 minutes for the first time this season.
  • Abby Skiff went the distance for the second time, while Sara Batchadji and Millie Greer each logged their fourth 90-minute performance of the season.
