Hawkeyes Head to Badger Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s golf team heads to Madison, Wis., this weekend for the Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course.

THIS WEEK

The Hawkeyes will compete in the 54-hole Badger Invitational Sept. 13-15 at University Ridge Golf Course.

Sunday’s opening round will begin at 9 a.m. (CT). Iowa will be paired with host Wisconsin and Michigan, teeing off from the first tee between 9:50 and 10:30 a.m.

Monday’s second round will also feature tee times beginning at 9 a.m. The tournament concludes Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

THE LINEUP

Iowa’s lineup includes Paige Giovenco, Maura Peters, Sunny Wang, Ximena Benites and Eva Kristinsdottir. Lily Huether will compete as an individual.

THE FIELD

The 16-team field includes host Wisconsin, Boise State, Bradley, Colorado State, Delaware, FIU, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, New Mexico State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Sam Houston, Washington State and Western Kentucky.

THE COURSE

University Ridge Golf Course will play as a par 72 at 6,332 yards for the Badger Invitational. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., University Ridge serves as the home course for the Wisconsin men’s and women’s golf programs.

The course has hosted several notable events, including the 1998 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship, the 2000 and 2010 Big Ten Women’s Golf Championships and the 2018 NCAA Women’s Golf Regional.

LAST TIME OUT

The Hawkeyes opened the 2026-27 season Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the Boilermaker Classic in West Lafayette, Ind., finishing 11th with a 54-hole total of 912 (300-308-304).

Giovenco led Iowa in her Hawkeye debut, tying for 36th with an 11-over-par 227 (74-78-75). She closed the tournament with a 3-over-par 75, matching Iowa’s low round of the final day.

A LOOK BACK: 2025 BADGER INVITATIONAL

Iowa finished sixth at the 2025 Badger Invitational with a 54-hole total of 882 (295-288-299).

Peters paced the Hawkeyes, finishing ninth with a 1-under-par 215 (74-69-72). Her second-round 69 matched her career low.

Benites tied for 24th with a 222 (73-74-75).

HAWKEYES TO WATCH

Benites, Giovenco and Peters were named Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch on Wednesday.

Peters led Iowa with a career-best 74.06 scoring average over 31 rounds last season, while Benites posted a career-best 74.48 average.

• Giovenco led Iowa at the season-opening Boilermaker Classic, tying for 36th in her Hawkeye debut.

UP NEXT

The Hawkeyes return to action Sept. 28-29 when they host the Diane Thomason Invitational at Davenport Country Club in Davenport, Iowa.
