TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Iowa men’s golf team tied for sixth at the Inverness Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at Inverness Club. The Hawkeyes finished with a 54-hole total of 872.

Iowa finished nine strokes behind tournament champion Auburn.

“We played a little nervous to start but settled into the round. We made the turn in good shape but our round fell apart the last few holes,” said Iowa head coach Tyler Stith. “This one is going to sting for a while but we will look back on this week as a big step forward for this team.”

Three Hawkeyes finished inside the top 20 individually. Fourth-year Maxwell Tjoa led Iowa, finishing tied for 14th with a four-over par 220. Second-year Bennett Warren and first-year Andrew Johannsen both tied for 19th with six-over-par 222s.

Third-year Grant Gudgel carded a seven-over-par 223 to tie for 26th, while third-year Ryan Shellberg rounded out the Iowa lineup, finishing 78th at 16-over-par.
