Hawkeyes Set to Host 2026 Diane Thomason Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday, hosting the Diane Thomason Invitational at Davenport Country Club in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.

THIS WEEK
The Hawkeyes will host the 54-hole Diane Thomason Invitational on Sept. 28-29 at Davenport Country Club.

The tournament will begin Monday with an 8:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start, with teams playing 36 holes. Tuesday’s final round will also begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

The course will be set up at 6,175 yards for Monday’s opening two rounds and 6,210 yards for Tuesday’s final round.

THE LINEUP
Iowa’s lineup will feature Eva Kristinsdottir, Sunny Wang, Maura Peters, Lily Huether and Ximena Benites.

Paige Giovenco, Maria Moczarska and Iris Gu will compete as individuals.

THE FIELD
The 13-team field includes Bowling Green, Bradley, Drake, Iowa, Missouri State, Montana State, North Dakota State, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Omaha, South Dakota, St. Thomas and Western Michigan.

THE COURSE
Davenport Country Club will serve as the host site for the Diane Thomason Invitational for the first time while renovations continue at Iowa’s home course, Finkbine Golf Course.

LAST TIME OUT
Iowa is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Badger Invitational on Sept. 13-15 at University Ridge Golf Course. The Hawkeyes finished with a 54-hole total of 878 (289-297-292).

Eva Kristinsdottir led Iowa, tying for fifth with an even-par 216 (69-76-71) to earn the first top-five finish of her collegiate career. She posted two under-par rounds, including a 3-under-par 69 in the opening round.

Sunny Wang also finished in the top 20, tying for 16th with a 4-over-par 220 (71-72-77).

HOME TOURNAMENT SUCCESS
The Hawkeyes will look to claim their third consecutive Diane Thomason Invitational title and fifth overall.

Iowa has won the tournament four times, claiming titles in 2015, 2018, 2024 and 2025.

Iowa successfully defended its title last season, firing a 54-hole total of 889 (296-303-290) at Finkbine Golf Course. The Hawkeyes also claimed the team title in 2024 with a 906 (288-299-319), marking the program’s first tournament title since 2021.

HOME SWEET HOME
Senior Maura Peters, a Pleasant Valley native, will compete in her hometown when the Hawkeyes tee it up at Davenport Country Club.

Peters has enjoyed success at the Diane Thomason Invitational, tying for fifth last season with a 4-over-par 220 (75-73-72). She also tied for 16th at the event in 2024.

HONORING DIANE THOMASON
The tournament is named in honor of former Iowa women’s golf head coach Diane Thomason, who led the program from 1975-2002.

Thomason guided Iowa to its first Big Ten championship in 1991 and coached seven All-Big Ten selections during her tenure. She was named Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1991 and National Golf Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1990.

Thomason was inducted into the National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1995.

OF NOTE…

• Iowa will look to win its third consecutive Diane Thomason Invitational title and fifth overall. The Hawkeyes previously won the event in 2015, 2018, 2024 and 2025.
• The Hawkeyes enter the tournament following a fourth-place finish at the Badger Invitational, their best team finish of the season.
• Kristinsdottir earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after tying for fifth at the Badger Invitational. She is the first Hawkeye to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in program history.
• Peters, a Pleasant Valley native, will compete in her hometown. She tied for fifth at last year’s Diane Thomason Invitational with a 220 (75-73-72).
• Peters has posted top-20 finishes in each of her last two appearances at the Diane Thomason Invitational, finishing tied for 16th in 2024 and tied for fifth in 2025.
• This year’s event will be the first Diane Thomason Invitational played at Davenport Country Club.

Following the home tournament, the Hawkeyes return to competition Oct. 12-13 at the Illinois Women’s Invitational at Medinah in Medinah, Ill.
