Hawkeyes Lead Heading into Final Round at Diane Thomason Invitational

PLEASANT VALLEY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s golf team sits in first place following the opening two rounds of the Diane Thomason Invitational on Monday at Davenport Country Club.

The Hawkeyes posted rounds of 293 and 295 for a 36-hole total of 588, holding a one-stroke lead over Missouri State heading into the final round. Bowling Green sits third at 594, while St. Thomas is fourth at 595. 

Maura Peters leads the Hawkeyes, sitting in a tie for fifth with a 4-over-par 146 (76-70). Peters fired a 1-under-par 70 in the second round, Iowa’s low round of the day.

Eva Kristinsdottir and Ximena Benites are tied for seventh at 5-over-par 147. Kristinsdottir posted rounds of 74 and 73, while Benites opened with an even-par 71 before carding a 76 in round two. Sunny Wang is tied for 13th at 6-over-par 148 (72-76), while Lily Huether is tied for 42nd at 15-over-par 157 (78-79). 

Three Hawkeyes are competing as individuals. Paige Giovenco is 13th at 6-over-par 148 (78-70), Iris Gu is 18th at 8-over-par 150 (74-76) and Maria Moczarska is tied for 20th at 9-over-par 151 (77-74).

• The Hawkeyes hold the 36-hole lead for the first time this season.
• Peters and Giovenco each carded 1-under-par 70s in the second round.
• Peters’ second-round 70 was her lowest round of the season.
• Giovenco’s second-round 70 was her lowest round as a Hawkeye.
