No. 4 Hawkeyes Shut Out Ball State, 8-0, Behind Pair of Hat Tricks

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The fourth-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team delivered a dominant performance at Grant Field on Sunday afternoon, shutting out Ball State, 8-0, behind hat tricks from Dionne van Aalsum and Fréderique van Cleef.

Iowa opened the scoring early in the first quarter when Dionne van Aalsum found the back of the net unassisted at the 2:11 mark for her fifth goal of the season.

Reine van Hoof extended the lead to 2-0 late in the quarter at 12:19, scoring her second goal of the year off an assist from Emily Edwards. Van Cleef added to the advantage at 14:27, netting an unassisted goal for her sixth of the season to give Iowa a 3-0 lead.

The Hawkeyes continued to build their advantage in the second quarter when Téa Fortpied scored her first goal of the season off a penalty corner at the 18:19 mark off assists from Rachel Herbine and Amber Millard-Smith, sending Iowa into the locker room ahead 4-0.

Iowa broke the game open with an explosive third quarter, beginning at 31:07 when van Aalsum converted a feed from Millard-Smith for her second goal of the game and sixth of the season. Less than 30 seconds later, van Cleef struck at 31:35 off an assist from Jordan Byers for her second goal of the match and seventh of the year to make it 6-0.

Van Aalsum completed her hat trick at the 34:32 mark with an unassisted tally, her third goal of the game and seventh of the season.

Van Cleef capped the scoring and secured her own hat trick at 39:20, netting an unassisted goal for her third of the match and eighth of the year to seal the 8-0 victory.

- Fréderique van Cleef has notched hat tricks in back-to-back games.
- Van Cleef and van Aalsum have combined for 15 Hawkeye goals this season.
- Iowa did not allow a shot on goal in either game this weekend.
