Hawkeyes Drop Fall Game to Kirkwood

The University of Iowa baseball team dropped a 30-25 decision to Kirkwood Community College in a 14-inning fall exhibition Friday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The University of Iowa baseball team dropped a 30-25 decision to Kirkwood Community College in a 14-inning fall exhibition Friday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The teams combined for 55 runs and 49 hits over 14 innings in an offensive showcase.

Iowa totaled 25 runs on 20 hits, including two doubles, two triples and three home runs. The Hawkeyes had 11 players record at least one hit and eight players drive in a run.

Garrett Luett paced Iowa offensively, going 3-for-7 with two RBIs. Kyle Alivo drove in a team-high four runs with a grand slam, while Nathan Hopkins finished 2-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Aaron Holland added two hits and two RBIs, and Jaylen Ziegler and Brett White each had two-hit performances.

On the mound, Iowa utilized 14 pitchers in the exhibition. Carter Wilcox tossed two hitless innings and struck out two, Ryan Stedman worked a hitless inning with two strikeouts, and Ty Mickelsen allowed one hit over 1 2/3 scoreless innings while fanning two.

Friday's exhibition was Iowa's third contest of the fall season and second at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
