IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa first-year goalkeeper Julia Claessens was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week and the second time in her career, the conference announced Monday.
Claessens played a key role in Iowa's defensive efforts, recording 10 saves while allowing four goals in two contests as the Hawkeyes defeated No. 15 Michigan and Michigan State.
The 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, native has totaled 25 saves this season and owns a .758 save percentage while allowing eight goals. She is 4-0 in goal for Iowa.
The sixth-ranked Hawkeyes return to action Friday, Oct. 9, against No. 1 Northwestern at 3 p.m. (CT) in Evanston, Illinois. The game will be televised on Big Ten Network.
