Hawkeyes Sign Loureiro

Iowa City, Iowa – Estela Loureiro, a five-star recruit out of Orland Park, Ill., has signed with the University of Iowa women’s tennis program and is set to begin her collegiate career as a Hawkeye in January, head coach Sasha Boros announced on Tuesday.

Loureiro, a first-year out of Carol Sandburg (Orland Park, Ill.) High School, is currently ranked No. 45 nationally in her recruiting class and No. 4 in the state of Illinois.

“I chose Iowa because of the team, the culture, and the feeling that this is where I belong,” Loureiro said. “Go Hawks!”

Athletics run deep in the Loureiro family: her parents, Marco (track and field) and Lydia (rowing), were University of Iowa student athletes in the 1990s. Her older sister, Maia, currently plays tennis at Northwestern University. Loureiro plans to study finance.

“We are so excited to welcome Estela to our Hawkeye family in January,” Boros said. “We love her energy, her spirit and the fight she brings to the court. From the moment she spent time with our team, she felt like a natural fit. There is something especially meaningful about Estela continuing her family’s Hawkeye legacy, following in the footsteps of her parents, who were both Iowa student-athletes in the 1990s. We can’t wait to see her in the Black and Gold and all she will bring to our program.”
