Hawkeyes Win 4 Matches at Hoosier Invitational

Bloomington, Ind. – The University of Iowa Women’s Tennis team continued play at the Hoosier Invitational on Saturday, posting two doubles wins by the pair of Emma Tothová and Emerey Gross. The two also won their respective singles matches.

In singles action, Ida Clement had another hard-fought match but eventually fell to Kansas State’s Varya Bernovich, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1. Tothová recorded her second win of the weekend by defeating Purdue’s Aleksandra Kyselova 6-2, 6-1, while Sally Xu fell to Kansas State’s Marta Leon 6-1, 6-1. Gross recorded her first win as a Hawkeye, defeating Miami’s (OH) Clara Owen 6-1, 6-2, and Clare Schaefer forced a third set against Indiana University’s Mansi Vadyala but fell 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles action, Clement and Xu fought with Kansas State’s Varya Bernovich and Sabrina Balderrama but loss 6-2. They were then defeated 6-0 against Miami (OH)’s Allie Faulkner and Maria Luisa Oliveria. Tothová and Gross picked up their first two wins together defeating Louisville’s Lika Peresypkina and Ahniya Vustina 7-5, and later beating Miami (OH)’s Nina Chavez and Clara Owen 6-4.

The Hawkeyes will conclude competition at the Hoosier Invitational on Sunday.
