IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s soccer team defeated Rutgers, 1-0, on Sunday at the Iowa Soccer Complex.
Iowa improved to 6-3-4 overall and 1-2-3 in Big Ten play, while Rutgers moved to 3-5-3 overall and 2-4-0 in conference play.
Iowa applied pressure early, recording 11 shots and seven corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes while limiting Rutgers to one shot.
The Scarlet Knights increased their offensive pressure after halftime, recording six shots in the second half. Iowa’s defense held firm, limiting Rutgers to two shots on goal, both of which were turned away by goalkeeper Braelynn Galt.
Iowa finished with a 15-7 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks. The Hawkeyes held 61 percent of the possession and put six shots on goal.
“We got three points and that’s the most important thing right now,” said Iowa head coach Dean Ward. “The first half, we played pretty good; the second half, credit to Rutgers, they made it really difficult for us, putting us under some pressure. But we showed a lot of great work and just dug into it to get a result.”

- Parten’s goal marked her 17th point of the season, tying her career high.
- Liana Tarasco became the 12th Iowa position player this season to play the full 90 minutes. Millie Greer, Sara Batchadji and Iba Oching also went the distance.
- The win marked Iowa’s first Big Ten victory of the season.
- Kylie Cino paced the Hawkeyes with two shots on goal.
- Iowa outshot Rutgers, 15-7, and has now outshot opponents, 251-111, this season.
- Galt recorded her seventh shutout of the season, making two saves.
