SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Third-year University of Iowa men’s golfer Grant Gudgel finished is tied seventh following the first two rounds of the Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame.
The Stillwater, Oklahoma, native carded a two-under-par 68 in the first round before shooting an even-par 70 in Round 2. His 138 total is three shots off the lead.
Gudgel’s first-round 68 matches his season low, which he previously recorded in the third round of the ANF Fall Classic. He had nine birdies through the first two rounds.
Fourth-year Maxwell Tjoa sits in a tie for 63rd with a nine-over-par 149, while third-year Ryan Shellberg is tied for 72nd with a 152. Second-year Bennett Warren is tied for 77th with a 156, and first-year Andrew Johannsen is tied for 79th at 157.
Iowa is in 14th place in the team standings with a currently sits in 14th place with a 595. The Hawkeyes shaved 14 shots off its total from Round 1 to Round 2.
California is atop the team standings with a at even par 560, while Illinois’ Max Herendeen is leading the field with a five-under par 135.
Round 3 will begin tomorrow with a 7:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.
