SEATTLE, Wash. — The University of Iowa women’s soccer team fell to No. 13 Washington, 2-1, on Thursday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
With the loss, Iowa moves to 6-4-4 overall and 1-3-3 in Big Ten play, while Washington improves to 10-1-2 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play.
The Huskies struck first as forward Alex Buck scored in the 31st minute to give Washington the lead.
Five minutes later, the Hawkeyes capitalized on a foul outside the box. Sara Batchadji converted the free kick to tie the match at 1-1.The match remained tied heading into halftime. The Huskies held a 3-2 advantage in shots, while the Hawkeyes led 2-1 in corner kicks.
Washington broke the tie in the 68th minute when Avery Nguyen found the back of the net to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.
Iowa created opportunities in the second half, recording eight shots, including five on goal, but could not find the equalizer. Goalkeeper Braelynn Galt finished with three saves, all coming in the second half.
