High School — two-time all-American in track, earning all-state honors as a junior… three-time all-conference… ran on conference champion 3,200-meter relay… track team won three conference titles… best times were 1:56.8 in 800 meters, 4:17.08 in 1,600 meters and 9:20.00 in 3,200 meters… coaches were Charlie Kern, Stanley Reddel and Joe Newton.
