Iowa Defeats Northern Illinois, 6-1

IOWA CITY, IA -- The Iowa women’s tennis team defeated Northern Iowa, 6-1, on the final day of the Hawkeye Invitational.

In doubles, Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz dominated Karrie Tyioran and Cassie Drake, 8-0. The duo of Jennifer Hodgman and Hilary Tyler won against Ivonne Andrade and Dani Martinez, 8-4, to seal the doubles point for the Hawkeyes. Chelsea Glynn and Deni Alexandrova lost a close match to Branka Savic and Kristi McIntyre, 9-8 (4).

In singles, the Hawkeyes competed against their strongest competition of the invitational. Racette handed Branka Savic a defeat, 7-5, 6-3. In the next match, Mintz won against Cassie Drake after a close first set. Hodgman lost to Karrie Tyioran, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, giving Northern Illinois its only point against Iowa.

The Hawkeyes will compete next February 1 against Drake beginning at 3 p.m. in the Recreation Building.
