Hawkeyes Start Strong at ITA Regionals

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Two members of the Iowa women’s tennis team started singles competition at the ITA Midwest Regionals, going 2-1 on the first day.

Sophomore Hilary Tyler defeated Western Illinois’ Diane Lutzke, 6-0, 7-5, in the first round of qualifying singles. In the second round, Tyler lost to Meredith Vincent of Ohio State, 7-5, 6-0.

Milica Veselinovic had a bye in the first round because she is the number two seed in qualifying singles. In the second round, Veselinovic won against Michigan State’s Karen Gustafson, 6-4, 6-2. Veselinovic will take on Notre Dame’s Liz Donohue tomorrow. The Hawkeyes will continue qualifying singles and begin doubles competition tomorrow at the ITA Midwest Regionals.
