The University of Iowa women’s tennis team dominated intrastate rival Iowa State Friday night, winning all nine matches.
In singles, Anastasia Zhukova played her first match at the No. 1 spot, defeating Danielle Uscinski, 6-3, 6-1. Hillary Mintz quickly won against Caitlin Loprinzi, 6-1, 6-3. At the No. 3 spot, Hilary Tyler earned a win over Jill Palen (6-4, 6-4), while Morgan Tuttle defeated Chrissy Derouin (6-1, 6-3). Newcomer Jacqueline Lee soundly defeated Charlotte Ljungkrantz, 6-0, 6-1. In No. 5 singles, Milica Veselinovic battled Elizabeth Chermel, pulling out a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 victory.
The doubles duo of Zhukova and Tyler won a decisive contest against Derouin and Ljungkrantz, 8-2. Mintz and Veselinovic emerged victorious at the No. 1 spot against Uscinski and Chermel (8-3). At No. 2 doubles, Racette and Lee defeated Palen and Loprinzi (8-4).
The Hawkeyes will continue the Hawkeye Invitational Sunday when they host Northern Illinois. Competition is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the UI Recreation Building.
