Jacksonville, FL – The University of Iowa baseball team routed Rider for the second-straight day Monday, topping the Broncs 20-4, in Jacksonville, FL.
The Hawkeye power surge was led by seniors Andy Cox and Nate Yoho, who each jacked out two home runs apiece. Cox was 3-of-4 with three RBIs, while Yoho was 2-of-4 with five RBIs. His home run in the sixth was a grand slam.
Senior catcher Kris Welker smashed a pair of doubles, while L.J. Mims (2-for-5), Travis Sweet (2-of-4) and Luis Andrulonis (2-for-2) also had multi-hit games.
Tim Gudex picked up the win for the Hawkeyes, scattering five hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked just one.
The Hawkeyes came out blazing, and had a 14-0 lead (including a nine-run sixth) before Rider scored its first run in the bottom of the sixth. In all, 12 Hawkeyes had at least one hit and 13 different players crossed the plate for Iowa.
Iowa (4-4) returns to action tomorrow against North Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT).
