The 54th-ranked Iowa women’s tennis team upset 33rd-ranked Wisconsin, 4-3, Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes improve to 10-7 overall, 4-2 in the Big Ten.
The Hawkeyes dominated doubles play, notching victories in all three matches. Anastasia Zhukova and Hilary Tyler improved to 12-1 with a victory over Lindsay Martin and Kaylan Caiati, 8-3. Hillary Mintz and Jacqueline Lee clinched the doubles point, defeating Nicole Beck and Chelsea Nusslock, 8-5. At the No. 1 spot, Meg Racette and Milica Veselinovic notched a win over Katie McGaffigan and Caitlin Burke, 8-7 (5).
In singles, Veselinovic quickly defeated Caiati, 6-1, 6-2. Zhukova earned a win over Martin, 7-6 (1), 6-2, at the No. 3 spot. Lee clinched the Hawkeye victory with a win over Beck, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Racette fought into a third set against 91st-ranked McGaffigan, but fell, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (6).
The Hawkeyes will next compete when they host Penn State April 15.
