Hawkeyes Drop Finale To Ohio State

COLUMBUS, OH – The University of Iowa baseball team dropped the series finale to the Ohio State Buckeyes, 16-7 Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes’ record falls to 11-8 (1-3 Big Ten) and Ohio State improves to 17-4 (3-1 Big Ten).

Ohio State started off the game hot, scoring four runs in the home half of the first. The Hawkeye battled back with three runs in the top of the second when Justin Toole hit his first home run of the season, a three-run home run to left. Dusty Napoleon hit his fourth home run of the season in the eighth inning.

Napoleon led the Iowa offense, going 2-5 with a home run and scoring twice. Toole was also 2-5 with a home run. Matt Wooldrik was 2-4 on the day, with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

David Conroy (1-3) started on the hill for Iowa but was roughed up early. Conroy allowed two hits, three runs and a walk. Andrew Porter threw four innings for the Hawkeyes, allowing five hits, four runs and striking out two. Casey O’Rourke threw an inning and a third for Iowa, allowing one hit and collecting a strikeout.

The Hawkeyes return to action Wednesday afternoon at Duane Banks Field for a doubleheader with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
