OAK RIDGE, TN –

The University of Iowa rowing team competed in all five events at the Aramark Central/South Sprints during the first day of competition. All five events qualified for final events on Sunday.

The Hawkeyes placed fifth in heat two of the open four to advance to Final C.

Iowa placed fourth in the varsity four to also compete in Final C.

Placing third in heat three the novice eight moved to semifinals. In semifinals Iowa placed fifth to advance to the Final B.

The first and second varsity eight both placed fourth; each in heat three of its own race. From there, both boats raced in the C/D semifinals winning each race. These boats have now solidified a place in Final C.

“In the first day of racing our athletes raced very well and we now hope to go race well tomorrow and come out with some victories in the finals,” comments head coach Mandi Kowal on day one of competition.
