IOWA CITY – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association have ranked the Hawkeyes 24th nationally in the 2008 indoor pre-season rankings.
The rankings are compiled strictly from the NCAA Descending Order lists. The preseason rankings are scored based on the final descending order list of the previous season with improvements based on NCAA post-season competition from that year.
The Hawkeye are slated to accumulate 37 team points, all coming from three seniors, based on their national ranking in each event. Kineke Alexander accounts for 23.11 points between the 400 (2nd) and 200 meters (15th), Meghan Armstrong accounts for 8.69 points between the 3,000 meters (20th) and mile (9th) and Diane Nukuri accounts for 5.19 between the 5,000 meters (12th), 3,000 meters (22nd) and the mile (26th).
Iowa is one of five teams representing the Big Ten Conference in the pre-season poll (Michigan 4th, Penn State 12th, Minnesota 15th and Illinois 25th). The Hawkeyes will open the indoor season with the Razorback Invitation at on Jan. 18th and the Iowa Open on Jan. 19th.
