MANAKIN-SABOT, VA – The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished the first day at the Virginia Commonwealth Shootout today. After two rounds, the Hawkeyes are in fifth place in the 15-team field, with a 36-hole score of 563 (-5). Wake Forest leads with a 542 (-26).
Senior Cole Peevler had another strong performance for the Hawkeyes, shooting a 36-hole 136 (-6). Peevler is sixth overall. After shooting a stellar second round of 64 (-7), Vince India is tied for tenth place with a 139 (-3). India’s second round score of 64 is the second-best 18-hole score in school history, while Peevler’s second round total of 66 ranks fourth best. Brad George and Barrett Kelpin are tied for 36th. The freshmen both recorded a 144 (+2). In addition, freshman Chris Brant posted a 152 (+10) and is in 76th place.
“We are really happy with where we’re sitting right now,” said Head Coach Mark Hankins. “We need to stay consistent tomorrow and wait for the top teams to pull closer to us.”
The Hawkeyes will continue play at the VCU Shootout tomorrow. Round three will begin at approximately 8:45 a.m. (ET).
