Hawkeyes Finish Seventh At VCU Shootout

MANAKIN-SABOT, VA – The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished the final round at the Virginia Commonwealth Shootout today. Iowa recorded an 18-hole score of 290 (+6) on the day. The Hawkeyes finished seventh of 15 teams with a 54-hole score of 853 (+1). Wake Forest won the tournament with an 825 (-27).

Cole Peevler recorded a third round score of 71 (E) and finished tied for sixth overall with a 207 (-6) to lead the Hawkeyes. Freshman Brad George finished in a tie for 33rd with a 216 (+3). He posted a 72 (+1) on his final round. Freshman Barrett Kelpin (217, +4) and sophomore Vince India (217, +4) both finished in a tie for 37th. Kelpin carded a final round score of 73 (+2) and India recorded a 78 (+7) today. Additionally, Chris Brant shot a 74 (+3) on the day. The freshman finished in a tie for 75th with a 226 (+13).

Peevler’s 36-hole score of 136, which he carded yesterday was the best in school history. Furthermore, Peevler and India both cracked the record books yesterday with their second round 18-hole scores. India now ranks second in school history with a 64 and Peevler is fourth with a 66.

The Hawkeyes will next compete at the Fighting Irish Golf Classic Oct. 6-7.
