Hawkeyes In Third At Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – The University of Iowa men’s golf team is tied for third place at the Boilermaker Invitational, where the second round has been suspended due to heavy rain. The Hawkeyes are sitting at 3-over par 291, tied with Toledo. Illinois is leading the 12-team field at 279 (-9). Competition is being played on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex where most players are 13-14 holes through the second round.

With one round complete, Brad Hopfinger was leading the Black and Gold. The junior was at even par 72 through the first 18, earning him a share of 15th place. The rest of the Iowa squad was all knotted up and tied for 21st. Junior Vince India, sophomores Barrett Kelpin and Chris Brant and freshman Ryan Marks all fired opening rounds of 1-over 73.

“We were consistent across the board, but none of the guys really got rolling,” said Head Coach Mark Hankins. “We will continue to stay patient and stick to our game plan for the rest of this round and the final 18.”

The second round will conclude Sunday with a shotgun start at approximately 7:45 a.m. (CT), with the tournament’s final round to follow.
