IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Iowa baseball team defeated Penn State, 11-4, Friday night at Duane Banks Field in the first of a three-game set. It marks Iowa’s third-straight win over the Nittany Lions, dating back to last season.

“(Jarred) Hippen and the pitching staff did a great job,” said head coach Jack Dahm. “(Zach) Kenyon was outstanding out of the bullpen. Penn State (25-17, 7-9) tied the contest with two runs in the top of the third. The Nittany Lions took advantage of three hits to even the score 3-3.

The visitor’s reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to left field. Iowa answered in the bottom half of the inning, reclaiming the lead at 6-4 with three runs of its own.

Iowa (17-26, 6-10) extended its lead to 10-4 in the bottom of the fifth. Iowa used three hits and three Penn State errors to post a four-run frame.
