Considine Suffers Torn Achilles

Sept. 16, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Head Coach Lisa Bluder has announced that senior Megan Considine has suffered a torn left Achilles and will miss the entire 2011-12 season. The injury occurred during a preseason workout Friday in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

“We are saddened to lose Megan to an Achilles tear today in practice,” Bluder said. “Megan has developed into an impact player for our program, from a walk-on athlete, to earning a full scholarship and being voted a team captain this season. Megan’s leadership on the court and in practice situations will be missed, but she will be an inspiration to all of us from the bench.”

Considine joined the team as a walk-on in January of 2010, when the team needed to add depth due to numerous injuries. She saw action in six contests as a sophomore during the 2009-10 season, playing her first career minutes at Michigan (Jan. 7). She scored her first career points and recorded her first career assist at Purdue (Jan. 31).

As a junior in 2011-12, Considine was an Academic All-Big Ten selection and scored a career-high five points in Iowa’s win over Northeastern (Nov. 20). She finished the season with 22 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists and five steals.

Considine was named a team co-captain, as voted by her teammates, at the start of preseason workouts.

Considine is the second Hawkeye to miss the 2011-12 season. Sophomore Jade Rogers had season-ending surgery to repair her right knee earlier this week.
