The Hawkeyes collected five singles wins during the tournament’s second day of competition. All doubles matches were finished on Friday, as Iowa won five matches. The 11-team tournament field includes six Big Ten teams.

Senior Cassandra Escobar advanced to the Flight D second round after her first round opponent withdrew. Escobar won her second round match against DePaul’s Cali Gustafson. The Guatemala City, Guatemala, native rebounded from a 6-7 (4) first set defeat to top Gustafson, 6-7(4), 7-6 (3), 6-4. Fellow senior Ally Majercik also won a match that lasted three sets. Majercik won a 5-7, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) decision against Jill Pastunink of Western Michigan in a match that lasted nearly four hours. Majercik fell in the second round.

Sophomore Christina Harazin and freshmen Shelby Talcott and Katie Zordani bounced back from first round defeats with wins. Harazin topped DePaul’s Carolin Neumann, 6-3, 7-5, Zordani beat Polina Guimaraes of Illinois-Chicago, 6-3, 6-4 and Talcott, the reigning Big Ten Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, won 7-5, 6-3 against Mariya Kovleva of Illinois-Chicago.

Doubles matches were played indoors at the Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill., on Friday due to inclement weather. Majercik and Talcott paired to post a 3-1 record in the Flight B bracket. The duo topped Hager/Yen of Michigan State, 8-5, Illinois-Chicago’s Sharples/Knoppe, 8-4 and Pereira/Guzalrova of South Carolina, 9-8 (4).
