DALLAS, Texas – The University of Iowa men’s golf team is in 10th place through two rounds at the fourth annual Royal Oaks Intercollegiate with a team mark of 575 (+7). After an opening round of four-under 280, the Hawkeyes posted a final round of 295 (+11). Its first round was not only the fourth lowest 18-hole total of any team, but Iowa’s lowest single round total of the season. Texas A&M is leading the 14-team field with a 36-hole total of 551 (-17). Play is being held on the par 71, 7,068-yard Royal Oaks Golf Course in Dallas, Texas.
Seniors Barrett Kelpin and Chris Brant are pacing the Hawkeyes and tied for 28th with scores of 143 (+1). Kelpin began with an opening round of four-under par 67, the fifth lowest 18-hole total of any competitor in the field. He recorded four birdies in his opening round without a single hole above par. With just one birdie in his second round to six bogies, Kelpin posted a 76 (+5) and sits 10 strokes out of first place.
Brant posted Iowa’s most consistent numbers with just five marks above par in 36 holes. Brant found himself three-over par through six holes in his opening round before closing out the next 12 holes at three-under par for a round at even par 71. Brant birdied his final hole of the second round to finish one-over on the round and one-over on the day.
Senior Brad George is tied for 34th with a 36-hole score of 144 (+2). He carded an opening round of even par 71 and a second round of 73 (+2). Freshman Ian Vandersee is tied for 45th with a score of 146 (+4) and sophomore Steven Ihm is tied for 50th with a 147 (+5).
