Bradenton, Fla. — The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished 10th at the 2012 Callaway Collegiate Match-Play on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawkeyes finished with a tournament record of 2-2 after dropping their consolation championship match against Liberty, 3-0-2. Arkansas topped Duke in the championship match as California finished third. Action was held on The Concession Golf Course, a par 72, 7,474-yard course in Bradenton, Fla.
Senior Chris Brant finished with a tournament record of 3-0-1 after finishing all square with Liberty’s Chase Marinell. Freshman Brian Bullington also finished his match knotted up with Niklas Lindstrom.
Steven Ihm dropped his final match to Liberty’s Ian McConnell, 3&1. Despite his final day, the sophomore finished with an impressive tournament mark of 3-1. Senior Barrett Kelpin and freshman Ian Vandersee both fell in the consolation championship. Kelpin was defeated by Robert Karlsson, 3&2, as Vandersee lost to Max McKay, 4&2.
The Hawkeyes are scheduled to travel to Dallas, Texas, on March 24 for the Black & Gold Alumni Match. The annual event gives Iowa student-athletes an opportunity for extra practice rounds as they play alongside former Iowa golfers.
