MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team posted a 2-2 singles record Saturday in their second day of competition at the Gopher Invitational. Freshman Annette Dohanics and junior Christina Harazin both advanced to the championship match of their respective bracket.
Dohanics beat Jessika Mozia of Minnesota, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the Maroon Singles Flight championship. Harazin defeated Melissa Cecil of Air force, 6-4, 6-3. Harazin will also compete in the Maroon Singles flight championship. Dohanics and Harazin will play against each other tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
Sophomore Morven McCulloch fell to Supejova of Eastern Michigan, 6-2, 5-7, 3-6. McCulloch will play for third place Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Gold Singles Flight. Freshman Caitlin Hindmarsh fell to Christine Molina of Air Force, 6-4, 6-2. Hindmarsh will return to action Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Gold Singles Flight.
The Hawkeyes went undefeated in doubles Saturday, dominating all four of their matches. Sophomore Ellen Silver and Hindmarsh defeated Krebsbach and Lindstrom of Gustavus Adolphus , 8-4. Dohanics and Harazin dominated Bailey and Skemo of UM-Milwaukee, 8-0. Harazin and Hindmarsh teamed to beat Fritz/Shannon of UM-Milwaukee. Dohanics and Silver defeated Northern Iowa’s Moore and King, 8-1. The teams of Harazin and Hindmarsh and Dohanics and Silver both earned a spot in the Gold Doubles Flight consolation championship. The consolation championship will take place at 9 a.m. Sunday.
Sunday will be the third and final day of competition for the Hawkeyes at the Gopher Invitational, which is being hosted at the Baseline Tennis Center.
