EVANSTON, Ill. — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team opened up competition today at the Wildcat Invitational.
After falling in their first matches, Hawkeyes Ruth Seaborne and Shelby Talcott made a comeback en route to the Purple Draw Consolation Championship. Seaborne fell to Turvy of Northwestern, then topped Pintusva of Minnesota, 6-2, 6-2. Talcott was defeated by Kling of DePaul, then beat Chypyha of Wisconsin, 6-3, 6-2. Seaborne and Talcott will compete for the title Sunday.
Ellen Silver split her matches in the Green Draw. She opened up with a win against Aleck of Western Michigan, 6-1, 6-1. In her second match, Silver picked up the first set but fell in final two, losing to Fisher of DePaul, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Christina Harazin also split her matches in the Black Draw. She topped Rincon-Otero of Minnesota, 7-5, 6-2. Harazin lost her second match to Hamilton of Northwestern, 6-3, 6-3.
Silver and Annette Dohanics picked up a lone win in doubles competition, topping Gray and Fisher of DePaul, 8-2.
The Wildcat Invite resumes Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with two rounds of doubles action.
