EVANSTON, Ill. — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team had a solid day of doubles at the Wildcat Invitational. The Hawkeyes went 4-2 on the day.
“We competed well today across the board,” said head coach Katie Dougherty. “Shelby and Tina did a great job of making adjustments from Friday and won two good matches. We did a better job of managing momentum shifts and playing the big points.”
After losing their first match yesterday, Hawkeye duo Shelby Talcott and Christina Harazin rallied in today’s competition. They first topped Engbroks and Melrose of Oklahoma, 8-6. They then went on to beat Courter and Umanets of Minnesota, 8-3, earning the doubles White Draw Consolation title.
After winning two straight matches, Ellen Silver and Annette Dohanics fell in the Black Draw Championship. They beat Gilbert and Brichacova of Minnesota, 8-6. They were topped by Mozia and Lambert of Minnesota, 8-6, earning third place in their respective bracket. Silver and Dohanics have teamed up to post an impressive 7-1 doubles record so far this fall.
Katie Zordani and Ruth Seaborne picked up their first doubles win of the tournament, topping Tury and Barnett of Northwestern, 8-5.
