“We had some real highlights,” director of track and field Larry Wieczorek said. “The good thing about an intrasquad meet is it’s a practice. It’s a dress rehearsal. It gives the athletes and the coaches a chance to see what we really need to work on as we go forward into January.”

A trio of freshmen recorded top three finishes in the men’s long jump competition. Klyvens Delaunay (20′ 10 ½; 6.36m), Josh Zeiser (20′ 4 ¼; 6.20m), and Ardian Asani 20′ 4 ¼; 6.20m) finished first through third, respectively. “I felt like there were some great performances,” head track and field coach Layne Anderson said. “We obviously held out quite a few people with the distance group and some other folks so I think there is a lot more that we have standing on the sidelines. I think we saw some real positive signs from our fall condition, but we have a long way to go. The good news is we have plenty of time to do it.”

The Hawkeye track and field team officially opens the indoor season Jan. 12 hosting the Iowa Open.
