INDIANAPOLIS — The University of Iowa men’s swimming and diving team had two events earn second swims during the morning prelims at the 2013 NCAA Championships.
The 200-yard medley relay kicked off the session with a 15th place finish to advance to tonight’s consolation final. The quartet of sophomore Grant Betulius, junior Andrew Marciniak and seniors Byron Butler and Jordan Huff finished with a time of 1:26.50.
The relay, who locked up honorable mention All-America accolades with the swim, entered the championship with the 16th-best time in the event.
Betulius advanced individually for a second swim in the 100-backstroke. The Illinois native finished with the 13th-fastest time, touching in 46.35 seconds, just off his school record 46.33 that he set yesterday in the opening leg of the 400-medley relay.
Freshman Roman Trussov also competed individually, finishing 33rd in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 54.19 seconds.
Swimming continues tonight at 6 p.m. (CT) at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. The Hawkeyes will also compete in the 800-freestyle relay in a timed final to close out tonight’s session.
