DES MOINES, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field junior Adrianne Alexia captured a second-place finish in the 800 meters in the first day of competition at the Drake Relays.
Alexia ran to a second-place finish in the unseeded 800 meters. The junior clocked a personal-best time of 2:08.61. That time ranks fifth all-time at Iowa. Freshman Kaitlyn Nelson also competed in the event. Nelson finished fifth when she crossed the line in 2:09.96.
The women’s 6,400-meter relay team captured a fourth-place finish. The team of graduate student Lauren Scott, freshman Lisa Gordon, graduate student Mareike Schrulle and senior Brooke Gambrall clocked a time of 19:41.15. That time ranks sixth all-time at Iowa.
Kevin Lewis ran to a ninth-place finish in the men’s 5,000 meters. The sophomore crossed the line in 14:21.66.
Senior Jon Michael Brandt clocked a personal-best time of 30:16.62 in the men’s 10,000 meters. Brandt’s time was good enough for an 11th-place finish.
The Drake Relays resume Friday at 8 a.m. (CT).
