ON THE MAT
The third-ranked University of Iowa (4-0) wrestling team faces No. 15 Edinboro (0-1) on Thursday in Edinboro, Pa. The dual begins at 6 p.m. (CT) inside McComb Fieldhouse (3,500).

THE SERIES
Iowa leads the all-time series 6-0. The Hawkeyes are making just their third trip to Edinboro, and first since Dec. 3, 1989 (W, 23-12). The first meeting in the series was contested at Edinboro. Iowa won the dual, 30-14, on Dec. 7, 1986. Iowa won the most recent meeting, 31-6, last year in Iowa City.

GILMAN SET FOR DUAL DEBUT
Redshirt freshman Thomas Gilman is expected to make his dual debut against Edinboro. Gilman, who owns a 6-1 mark in two tournament appearances, is expected to face No. 17 Kory Mines at 125 pounds. Gilman owned a 23-5 record competing unattached last season. He has three career tournament titles to his credit, including a first-place finish at the Joe Parisi Open on Nov. 23.

RAMOS VS. SCHOPP TAKE II
Top-ranked Tony Ramos meets eighth-ranked A.J. Schopp at 133 pounds for the second time in as many duals. Ramos scored a 9-0 major decision when he was ranked No. 2 last season. Schopp was ranked third at the time. Ramos went on to place runner-up at the NCAA Championships, where Schopp placed fourth. Now ranked No. 1, Ramos has recorded a team-best six falls this season. He entered the season with 24 career pins, and has since raised his career total to 30. He recorded two falls as a redshirt freshman, eight falls as a sophomore, and 14 falls last season as a junior. Ramos needs 44 career falls to tie Chuck Yagla for 10th all-time in career pins. Brent Metcalf, who scored 47 pins from 2008-10, was the last Hawkeye to crack the top 10 list. Prior to Metcalf, the list had not changed since Terry Brands (48), Tom Brands (46), and Mark Reiland (45) ended their careers in 1992.

DZIEWA TAKES THE DZOURNEY HOME
Junior Josh Dziewa is making his first appearance as a Hawkeye in his home state Thursday. The Yardley, Pa., native compiled a 124-7 career record at Council Rock high school. He was 33-1 en route to a state title his senior season. Dziewa has started the season 9-0 with four falls and a pair of major decisions at 141 pounds. He as climbed to No. 13 in the national rankings. Dziewa is expected to face Bellefonte, Pa., native Mitchell Port, the nation’s No. 2 rated 141-pounder. Port was runner-up at 141 pounds at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Dziewa is 6-0 all-time in duals, including a 1-0 mark as a redshirt freshman (149 pounds), and a 1-0 in record last season as a sophomore. Both wins were major decisions. Dziewa earned the 141-pound starting spot after running through the Luther Open on Nov. 16. He recorded two major decisions, one pin, and a pair of decisions over teammates Ethan Owens (2-0) and Topher Carton (4-0). His win at the Luther Open was his fourth career tournament title.

ST. JOHN OFF TO HOT START
Senior Derek St. John has started 9-0 for the third straight season. He was 11-0 as a sophomore and 22-0 as a junior before suffering his first loss. He enters 2013-14 as a three-time All-American and a chance to become the 18th four-time All-American in school history. St. John finished fourth as a freshman and runner-up as a sophomore before winning the NCAA title in 2013. He put together five-straight wins to climb to the top of the 157-pound bracket and become the 52nd national champion in program history. His title is the 80th individual NCAA wrestling championship in school history. Mark Perry was the last Hawkeye four-time All-American. He is also the last Iowa wrestler to win back-to-back NCAA championships. Perry won titles in 2007 and 2008.

MOORE IMPROVES TO 3-0
Junior Nick Moore defeated No. 3 Mike Moreno of Iowa State to improve to 3-0 this season. Moore made his season debut at the Iowa City Duals on Nov. 22, opening the season with a pair of first period falls. Moore was 18-10 overall last season at 165, placing fourth at the Big Ten Championships and earning his first NCAA berth. His win over Moreno bumped him up to No. 4 in the national rankings.

9-FOR-9 ON BONUS POINTS
Junior Mike Evans has scored bonus points in each of his nine matches. He owns a team-high four technical falls, and has recorded four pins and one major decision this season. The four pins surpass his season total from a year ago, when he recorded two falls. The four falls are one more than Derek St. John led the team with a year ago. Evans is returning to his home state for the second time as a Hawkeye. He visited Penn State in 2011-12, losing 9-4 to David Taylor. A native of Enola, Pa., Evans, owned a prep record of 165-8 while competing at Blair Academy. He won the state title his senior year with a 52-0 record. Evans opened the season in the Iowa starting lineup for the third straight year, but for the first time at 174 pounds. He recorded a 26-8 record at 165 as a freshman, and was 2-0 at 165 his sophomore season before bumping up a weight class. He was 21-7 at 174 in 2013, earning a Big Ten runner-up finish and his first All-America honor.

NO. 1 AT 184
Senior Ethen Lofthouse is in line to face No. 8 Vic Avery on Thursday at 184 pounds. It will be Lofthouse’s first ranked opponent since he raced through seven ranked opponents en route to a fifth place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Lofthouse is 8-0 this season and ranked No. 1 at 184 pounds by Amateur Wrestling News. He has five pins this season, one more than he had all of last year.

BROOKS MAKES DUAL DEBUT
Redshirt freshman Sammy Brooks bumped up a weight class to make his Hawkeye dual debut and face Iowa State’s third ranked Kyven Gadson on Dec. 1. Brooks was unable to erase a first period takedown against Gadson and eventually fell, 3-2. He is 7-2 overall competing at 184 pounds, and 0-1 at 197.

TELFORD RISES THROUGH FALLS
Junior Bobby Telford pinned all five opponents at the Luther Open on Nov. 16. It was Telford’s first appearance since leaving the 2013 NCAA Championships with a knee injury. He navigated the 285-pound bracket at the Luther Open in a combined time of 7:32. He pinned his first four opponents in the opening minute before winning the championship finals with a second period fall (4:42). Telford’s five falls match his season total from a year ago. He now has 19 career pins.

NCAA EXPERIENCE
The Hawkeyes return seven wrestlers with NCAA Championship experience. Senior Derek St. John (157) is the defending national champion at 157 pounds and a three-time All-American. Seniors Ethen Lofthouse (184) and Tony Ramos (133) are three-time NCAA qualifiers and two-time All-Americans. Juniors Mike Evans (174) and Bobby Telford (285) are two-time NCAA qualifiers. Telford earned All-America honors in 2012, while Evans earned All-America honors in 2013. Junior Nick Moore (165) and sophomore Nathan Burak (197) both qualified for their first NCAA Championships in 2013.

HAWKEYE WRESTLING HISTORY
Iowa’s overall dual meet record is 930-222-31 (.799) in 104 seasons. The Hawkeyes have won 23 national titles and 34 Big Ten titles. Iowa’s 52 NCAA Champions have won a total of 80 NCAA individual titles, crowning six three-time and 16 two-time champions. The Hawkeyes’ 105 Big Ten champions have won a total of 190 conference titles. There have been seven four-time, 18 three-time, and 28 two-time Iowa winners. Iowa’s 148 All-Americans have earned All-America status 301 times, including 17 four-time, 32 three-time and 38 two-time honorees.

LAST MEETING (Feb. 16, 2013 — Iowa City)
Iowa went on to win eight of 10 matches, scoring bonus points in six bouts, to defeat No. 15 Edinboro, 31-6.

Tony Ramos won by major decision over No. 3 A.J. Schopp, scoring a takedown and two nearfall points to grab a 4-0 first-period lead. He stretched his lead to 6-0 with a reversal in the second period, and added a takedown and 1:26 of riding time to earn a 9-0 victory.

Derek St. John (157), Nathan Burak (197) and Bobby Telford (285) also earned major decisions. St. John totaled four takedowns and 4:09 of riding time to win 13-2. Burak raced to a 10-1 lead after two periods and finished the third with three takedowns en route to a 17-5 win. Telford erased a 2-0 deficit by putting together 13 unanswered points to earn his first major decision of the season, 13-2.

In his final collegiate appearance inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, senior Matt McDonough scored a major decision over Kory Mines, 14-3.

Including No. 15 Edinboro, nine of Iowa’s 17 dual opponents are ranked in the top 25 of the NWCA/USA Today/AWN Division I Coaches Poll. They include Penn State (1), Minnesota (2), Oklahoma State (4), Nebraska (10), Northwestern (17), Purdue (19), and Michigan (20). Iowa defeated No. 15 Iowa State, 23-9, on Dec. 1. Iowa’s schedule includes two regular season tournaments, 17 duals, eight home dates and two postseason events — Big Ten Championships (Mar. 8-9), and NCAA Championships (Mar. 20-22).
