Relays Take Over on Day 2

April 19, 2014

WALNUT, Calif. – Four University of Iowa relay teams grabbed top-eight finishes at the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday. No team scores were kept.

The men’s 400-meter relay team started off the afternoon with a fifth-place finish. The team of senior Tevin-Cee Mincy, freshman O’Shea Wilson, sophomore Brendan Thompson, and junior Keith Brown clocked time of 40.46. The women’s team of sophomore Lake Kwaza, freshman Elexis Guster, sophomore MonTayla Holder, and freshman Alexis Hernandez finished eighth in the women’s event. The quartet recorded a time of 45.61.

“Both the men’s and women’s team had some outstanding performances this weekend,” said director of track and field Larry Wieczorek. “Both teams made significant improvements. We are set up nicely going into the Drake Relays.”

The women’s 1,600-meter relay team of Guster, freshman Mahnee Watts, Holder, and Kwaza crossed the line in 3:37.73 to finish seventh. Their time ranks sixth all-time at Iowa. The men’s squad grabbed an eighth-place finish. Junior Kaleb VanCleave, sophomore James Harrington, junior Brennan Davey, and sophomore Will Teubel recorded a season-best time of 3:11.92.

The Hawkeyes travel to Des Moines, Iowa, to compete in the Drake Relays on April 24-26.
