DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Iowa senior Jack Eckert finished fifth in the men’s decathlon at the Drake Relays on Thursday afternoon.

Eckert recorded two personal bests on the first day of the men’s decathlon competition on Wednesday. The Sellersburg, Ind., native, cleared a personal-best height of 6-2 ¾ (1.90m) to finish fourth in the high jump. Eckert also clocked a personal-best time of 11.62 in the 100 meters. He sat in 14th place at the end of the first day.

Eckert used three top-five finishes to make his way into fifth place on the second day of the men’s decathlon. He notched a pair of second-place finishes in the pole vault (15-1; 4.60m) and the 1,500 meters (4:33.60), and a fourth-place finish in the javelin (179-10; 54.82m). Eckert finished the day with 6,768 points.

Kassidy Ellis earned a 14th-place finish in her heptathlon debut. The sophomore recorded a personal-best mark of 106-10 (32.57m) to finish eighth in the javelin. Ellis recorded a pair of 12th-place finishes in the 800 meters (2:36.51) and the long jump (16-9 ¼; 5.11m). Ellis ended the two-day competition with 4,242 points, a total that ranks eighth all-time at Iowa.

Senior Adrianne Alexia (2:15.28) and sophomore Kaitlyn Nelson (2:17.25) finished seventh and ninth, respectively, in the women’s unseeded 800 meters. Senior Nathan Prom clocked a 1:54.76 in the men’s unseeded 800 meters to finish eighth.

The women’s 6,400-meter relay team ran to an eighth-place finish. The quartet of juniors Shannon Maser and Rachel Price, and freshmen Tess Wilberding and Astrid Montuclard clocked a 20:23.27. Their time ranks seventh all-time at Iowa.

The men’s 6,400-meter relay team of juniors Ben Witt and Kevin Lewis, and freshmen Michael Hart and Matt Butler crossed the line in 17:01.65. Their time ranks fourth all-time at Iowa.
